We have been learning about protractors and how to use them to measure all different angles. It is a lot of fun to use protractors!

Today we learned how to create an arc to help guide our story. We also learned that the 3 angles in a scalene triangle create a 180 degree angle. Thanks for reading my post!

Dividing
Today in math, we learned about dividing. We know the known dimension in a array is called the divisor, the area of the array is called the dividend and the answer is the quotient. We played Work Place games today to help us with dividing. It was a great day!

Today we started to write our first draft on one of our writing pieces. Small groups were awesome today. Science was cool today also. I can't wait for our bugs!

Thursday, September 8th
Today, we started Quick Facts again! In math we learned how to create a Prime Factorization tree. It was kinda hard. We also read the story Roxaboxen in writing today to help us understand the strategy of writing in a step-by-step way, using imagination, and to understand our stories we write are a treasure.

We will be here every day on time and be respectful by listening to the speaker, paying attention and staying on-task. We will always be helpful and honest to others. We will try not to get distracted and complete all assignments on time. If we do all of these things, we will be learning, having fun and will be going to 6th grade and college!
Upcoming News and Events
• Homework- The class did OUTSTANDING last week on turning in our Homework Books. We are still working toward turning in all Home Connections. Remember, the Homework Book is due EVERY Friday (unless your child has worked ahead) and Home Connections are due the NEXT DAY from when they are assigned. They are assigned based on the daily lessons, so there is not a specific day they will be coming home. Home Connections will continue to come home about 3 to 4 times a week.
• Friday, September 9th – The Homework Book is due today! If students wish to complete future homework assignments early, they are more than welcome to do so!
• Wednesday, September 14th - Wednesday folders will be sent home today! Please review the papers inside of them, sign the folder, and return it the next day.
• Friday, September 16th – NWEA Testing begins for all 5th graders today! We will be taking our Reading test today! Remember to get a good night sleep, eat breakfast, and come to school prepared to reach your GOALS!!!
• Monday, September 19th – NWEA Testing ~ Math
Our goals for next week are...
• Reading- We WILL determine how an author uses reason and evidence to support particular points in a text.
• Math- We WILL use the correct Order of Operations when completing math problems.
• Writing- We WILL retell a story in a step-by-step fashion to help organize our Personal Narrative writing.

Home Connections will be coming home about 3 to 4 times a week.
• Monday, August 29th- Our homework routine begins today! Homework will be sent home today and will be due on Friday! This year, students will bring home a "Homework Book" that contains all of the homework for the quarter. If students wish to complete future homework assignments early, they are more than welcome to do so!
• Wednesday, August 31st- Wednesday folders will be sent home today! Please review the papers inside of them, fill out the Music Form, sign the folder, and return it the next day.
• Friday, September 2nd- Remember, today will be the first time the homework book is due for the year! Students will need to return their Homework Books to class today!
• Monday, September 5th- Labor Day! No School!
Our goals for next week are...
• Reading- We WILL determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language, such as metaphors and similes.
• Math- We WILL recall multiplication and division facts through 12's to solve problems.
• Writing- We WILL learn the strategies of good Personal Narrative writing.

Today we finally got some homework. We also got a new writing topic.
Friday we had a sub and she was very nice. We also learned how a bill becomes a law.

What we did in school today
Most people got above green today. We learned to play a game called Array challenge. We enjoyed our first day of writing. We will have writer's workshop everyday at 3:00.
First Day of 5th Grade
Today, we learned the basics. We created our Mission Statement that we will live by everyday in our classroom! The class made a Keynote Presentation that was about our school-wide rules. We had a great time playing outside.
