Empowering Students to Succeed
Mrs. Elsen’s 5th Grade Class Mission (Developed by the students)
We will be here every day on time and be respectful by listening to the speaker, paying attention and staying on-task. We will always be helpful and honest to others. We will try not to get distracted and complete all assignments on time. If we do all of these things, we will be learning, having fun and will be going to 6th grade and college!
Upcoming News and Events
• Homework- There will be two types of homework this year. The Homework Book AND Home Connections. The Homework Book is due EVERY Friday (unless your child has worked ahead). Home Connections are due the NEXT DAY from when they are assigned. They are assigned based on the daily lessons, so there is not specific days these will be coming home. Home Connections will be coming home about 3 to 4 times a week.
• Monday, August 29th- Our homework routine begins today! Homework will be sent home today and will be due on Friday! This year, students will bring home a "Homework Book" that contains all of the homework for the quarter. If students wish to complete future homework assignments early, they are more than welcome to do so!
• Wednesday, August 31st- Wednesday folders will be sent home today! Please review the papers inside of them, fill out the Music Form, sign the folder, and return it the next day.
• Friday, September 2nd- Remember, today will be the first time the homework book is due for the year! Students will need to return their Homework Books to class today!
• Monday, September 5th- Labor Day! No School!
Our goals for next week are...
• Reading- We WILL determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language, such as metaphors and similes.
• Math- We WILL recall multiplication and division facts through 12's to solve problems.
• Writing- We WILL learn the strategies of good Personal Narrative writing.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Elsen
